It’s been nearly 30 years since the skylights in our atrium were installed. They’ve grown brittle and no longer perform their primary job—keeping the weather out of the atrium! Have you been there when it’s raining and had to dodge the trash cans scattered across the floor? That’s not a very good or hospitable look for the church. How about during the summer, when the sun beats down on the skylights and makes it very hot in the atrium and very difficult to keep the sanctuary cool? One good hailstorm, they say, could make conditions even worse
The atrium honors our history, connecting our former sanctuary, now Wright Hall, with our current sanctuary. This space should show our respect for all those who came before us at Annandale UMC and helped the church share God’s love and grace with our community and around the world. We have a beautiful sanctuary and an impressive building, but when guests walk into a wet or sweltering atrium, the impact is diminished. The atrium is an important central space for church gatherings and for showing hospitality to members and friends. We need this space to be comfortable and welcoming to all.
Help make the reality of a beautiful, comfortable, and efficient atrium possible by contributing to the Atrium Skylight Replacement Campaign.

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good.

The Trustees have contracted for the skylights to be replaced in late May and early June.
The total cost of the project will be approximately $105,000. Church Council has authorized using $35,000 of the generous $195,000 McCalman Family Bequest for this project. We need to raise the other $70,000 through donations. We have received an additional $20,000 in advance gifts in memory or in honor of loved ones.
The approximate cost of a single skylight panel is $500. Please consider purchasing a panel or a portion of a panel. Any gift of any size is important and appreciated. All donors will be recognized in an Atrium Skylight Replacement Donor Recognition Book, which we will preserve in our history records. If you are making a gift in memory or in honor of a loved one, please provide the wording you would like recorded in the book.
Donations requested by August 1. Any funds received over the project’s cost will be added to our Capital Repair designated fund.
