Annandale United Methodist Church

Grace Sets Us Free to Love Our Neighbors

Our Main worship service is Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

6935 Columbia Pike, Annandale VA 22003

At Annandale UMC, we emphasize the Good News of the Gospel: that we live as forgiven people who no longer must fear God’s judgment but can instead rest secure in the compassion and love of Christ. Each service includes communion.

Worship most frequently features the sermons of our head pastor, Rev. Jason Micheli, the author of A Quid without a Quo: Gospel Freedom According to Galatians, Living in Sin, and Cancer is Funny. He also hosts the Crackers & Grape Juice podcast, posts thoughts on the Tamed Cynic blog, and is a writer for Mockingbird and The Christian Century.

Our music is a mixture of contemporary and traditional, with each service featuring songs from our Praise Team (with singers, acoustic guitars, and drums) as well as our Adult Choir (a multitude of talented singers joining their voices together in classic arrangements). Hymns are sung together by the entire congregation each week. On special occasions, our bell choir or guest musicians also play.

After worship, everyone is invited for fellowship featuring light refreshments and friendly faces.

Current Sermon Series

The Prophet Who Knows Best: A Six-Week Eastertide Series on the Book of Jonah
Jonah is the strangest prophet in Scripture — and the most honest mirror the church has. He is not a villain. He is a man who knows God better than almost anyone, who has received the word of the Lord, who can pray the Psalms from the belly of a fish. And he cannot bear the thought that God might be merciful to the wrong people.
Though short, Jonah is one of the richest books in the scriptures for the season of resurrection. The sign of Jonah is the sign of Easter — three days in the depths, and then the grave giving back what it swallowed. But the book does not end at the resurrection. It ends with a question God puts to a silent prophet, and through him to us: Should I not be concerned about Nineveh? Jonah never answers. We are invited to. During worship over six Sundays from Easter 2 through Easter 7, we will follow Jonah down — into the ship, into the sea, into the fish, into his own anger — and discover that the God who pursues Jonah is the same God who pursues us. The reluctant prophet turns out to be very good company.
