One of the Mission Center’s greatest blessings is the volunteers who help us serve others and the community as a whole. Current volunteer opportunities are below.

Media and Outreach

Contact Dana A. Goward, dagoward@gmail.com
Refresh and maintain our Facebook presence and explore other social media opportunities.
Establish a regular rhythm of outreach and communications to AUMC, partner congregations and agencies.
Compile and maintain a roster of public officials and commercial interests to periodically contact and keep informed. Support the board of directors in these contacts and outreach.

ESL Classes

Contact Dana A. Goward, dagoward@gmail.com
We are seeking a volunteer to help us identify ways to bring a new English as a Second Language program to the Mission Center. Our community members tell us they are especially interested in ESL classes.

Each Tuesday and Thursday morning we pick up donated food from our grocery store and bakery partners and deliver it to the site for distribution Thursday afternoon. This requires use of some volunteers’ vehicles, loading and unloading, lifting/carrying boxes and bags of food, and stocking rolling shelves.
Preparation, distribution, and light clean up is done in two shifts on Thursday afternoons from 3-5 and 5-7 p.m.

Volunteer positions are available for planning and planting landscaping, as well as leading a team of volunteers to maintain it. Materials will be provided. We are only able to afford a seasonal grass cutting service to help maintain our grounds. Volunteers are also needed to do minor maintenance and repair, painting, caulking, and other tasks. The Mission Center has a part time custodian and shares one facilities maintenance person with the much larger AUMC main campus. Both are exceptional team members but can’t do everything.
We also need repair to a section of our roof. Donations of or significant discount on repair work by a licensed contractor would be very helpful.
Contact Pam Adams, majmommd@msn.com
We appreciate donations of new and lightly used clothing for children ages 2-16, especially ages 2-8. Please drop off donations in the box below the coat racks in the atrium. We greatly appreciate your continued support.
Distribution is the third Thursday each month. Volunteers are needed for distribution and on other days to sort and prepare.
Contact Julie Carpenter, Julie.Carpenter@handsonharvests.org
We are looking for volunteers to help us build a community garden on site with Hands on Harvests, allowing community members to grow fresh produce.
We also appreciate donations to support the garden.
Contact Betsy Clevenger, etclevenger@verizon.net
We have monthly distributions of infant diapers(first Thursdays), feminine hygiene products (second Thursdays), and adult diapers (fourth Thursdays). We appreciate donated materials and volunteers to help with distribution.
Contact Marcia Twomey at mtwomey@mccpfoundation.org or Dr. Sue Kohn at skohn@mccpfoundation.org
If you are interested in volunteering with the Medical Care for Children Partnership (MCCP), which operates the clinic, contact us to get involved.
